Never Question the Greek Quisquilian Quip
Every language has their slang, curse and insults. Greek is no different - except these are insults from the ancients and it’s a much classier slap in the face than boring expletive. Like any self respecting Quisquilian Quip would be.
AMATHÉS - useless fool
AISCHROURGÒS - a dirty pervert
CHALKÒS - one who is cheeky, impudent
EMBRÒNTETOS - someone out of their mind
EXCEREBROSE - brainless. From Latin ex (out, without) and cerebrum (brain).
EXOPHTHALMIC - bug-eyed. From Greek ex (out) and ophthalmos (eye).
FISSILINGUAL - fork-tongued. From Latin fissus (split) and lingua (tongue).
FLAGITIOUS - thoroughly wicked, villainous. From Latin flagitium (shameful act)
FURFURACEOUS - flaky, dandruff-covered. From Latin furfur (bran, chaff).
GHASTRÒDES - a big-bellied man
GHÀUROS - someone full of air, a braggart
GLOUTOS - buttocks, but ruder.
GRÀSON - one that stinks like a goat
FILOTARICHOS - pickled fish lover
KAPFATTELEBODES - brainless like a seagull or a locust
KATÀRATOS - cursed
KÈPFOS - stupid
KERÀSTES - a cuckold
KOPRÌAS - a dirty buffoon
KRIÒMYXOS - stupid like a ram
METHUSAI - old women. An insult, especially when applied to men.
MOIKALÌS - a two-timing woman
MOROSOPH - a learned fool. From Greek moros (stupid) and sophos (wise).
MYRTON - debauched
OINOPÌPES - a drunkard
PANKATARATOS - thrice cursed
PANOÙGROS - a ruffian
PEDICULOUS - lice-infested. From Latin pediculus (louse).
PHLYAROS - knave
QUIDNUNC - busybody, gossip-monger. From Latin quid nunc? (what now?).
QUISQUILIAN - worthless, consisting of trash. From Latin quisquiliae (waste matter, rubbish).
RUCTABUNDE - gasbag. From Latin ructus (belch) and abundus (abundant).
SKÈRBOLOS - cheeky
SUAGROI - people with a romantic attachment to pigs.
TROGLODYTAI - primitive cave dweller.
XANTHODONTOUS - yellow-toothed. From Greek xanthos (yellow) and odont- (a combining form for tooth)
