An Amazing Array of Arabic Words

ALIZARIN - a red dye with considerable commercial usage.

ALQAMAR - Arabic for moon

FANAA - destruction of the self for love

FARFAR - which is in the medieval Arabic dictionaries with meanings including "lightness and frivolity", "talkative", and "shouting

GHAZAL: Arabic verse( poetic form ) dealing with loss and romantic love. Consisting of syntactically and grammatically complete couplets, the form also has an intricate rhyme scheme.

GHŪL - ghoul. Ghouls are a well-known part of Arabic folklore. The word’s first appearance in the West was in an Arabic-to-French translation of the 1001 Arabian Nights tales in 1712. Its first appearance in English was in a popular novel, Vathek, an Arabian Tale by William Beckford, in 1786. Ghouls appear in English translations of the 1001 Arabian Nights tales in the 19th century

HABIBI - means 'my love' and is often used in conversation, both formally and informally. It's one of those words to learn as it can be used in any situation — when genuinely calling someone a friend, when fighting or even when being sarcastic!

‎HABB - This is the general word for “love”. It can describe romantic love, or love for family, activities or objects. You might recognize it as the root of the Arabic terms of endearment habib (for men) and habibi (for women).

‎HANAAN - has several meanings, including compassion, tenderness, and loving care. It’s a common Arabic first name.

HUYUM - A love that makes you lose all reason and drives you to insanity

IISHRAQ - sunshine

INARA - brilliant shining light

ISHQ - When you’re in the “honeymoon phase” of love and are feeling a passionate love for your partner, ’ishq is the word to use. It’s the feeling you have when the initial love you felt for someone has now taken root. In fact, the origin of this word comes from the Arabic word for “vine”. This conveys the impression of the love having been planted in your heart so it can grow into passion.

JULĀB - rose water and a syrupy drink. Arabic was from Persian gulab = "rose water". In its early use in English it was a syrupy drink. Like the words candy, sugar, and syrup, "julep" arrived in English in late medieval times in association with imports of cane sugar from Arabic-speaking lands. Like syrup, julep's early records in English are mostly in medicine writers.

KALB - dog

KISMET - fate; destiny. From the Turkish ‘ksmet’ from Arabic ‘qisma(t)’ meaning “a portion, lot,” fate from ‘qasama’ “to divide”

MAAFI MUSHKI - means 'no problem'.

MABROOK - congratulations

MAD’OUK - tried and tested, experienced or toughened and is used to demonstrate someone’s credibility through their life experience. Also known as street smarts.

MAKTUB - literally means “it is written.” It means fate or destiny.

NAJIMA - Arabic for star

QAHR- anger, fury or rage.

QAHWA - coffee. Coffee drinking originated in Yemen in the 15th century.

QAĪRAWĀN - convoy of travelers journeying together, which could be a merchant convoy or military or other convoy.

QALB - heart.

QAND + QANDĪ, sugared. Cane sugar developed in ancient India. Medieval Persian qand = "cane sugar" is believed to have probably come from Sanskrit

QUTN - cotton. This was the usual word for cotton in medieval Arabic. The word entered the Romance languages in the mid-12th century and English a century later.

SAMAR - staying up late after the sun has gone down and having an enjoyable time with friends. Samar is also an Arabic name meaning ‘evening conversations including Arabic music and poetry’

SAMA - sky

SHAGHAF - this word is reserved for an intensely burning love or lust. You can use it to describe being madly in love with someone.

SHAMS - sun

TAARRADHIN - the act of coming to a happy compromise where everyone wins. It’s a way of reconciling without anyone losing face. (Arabic)

TARAB - musically induced ecstasy or enchantment. Though the specific songs, emotional reactions, and reasons behind those reactions may vary from person to person, being moved by music is a universal experience—even babies sometimes cry when they hear certain songs. In Arabic, this sense of losing yourself in the music is called tarab. (Arabic)

TEEZAK HAMRA - literally "Your butt is red!", meaning "you're a dumbass."

YA'ABURNEE - inEnglish, the literal translation is "you bury me." It's used to express the hope that your loved one outlives you, so you don't have to endure the pain of living without them.
