Who Wrote the Book of LOVE
words about how much we love books
1)
BIBLIOPHILIA
A lover of books. The classic bibliophile is one who loves to read, admire and collect books, often amassing a large and specialized collection. Bibliophiles usually possess books they love or that hold special value as well as old editions with unusual bindings, autographed, or illustrated copies.
2)
BIBLIOPHAGE
The one who loves to read books; a bookworm. From Greek biblio- meaning “book” + -phage meaning “one who eats.” A book devourer. Associated with bibliophagy, the act or habit of reading voraciously
3)
BIBLIOLATER
A person who extravagantly admires a book or books or one who is keenly devoted to books. From Greek biblio- (book) + -latry (worship). Earliest documented use: 1847.
4)
BIBLIOTAPH
Someone who hoards or hides their books, or metaphorically “buries” them under lock and key. A person who won’t let you borrow his books (or hers, to be politically correct)—possibly fearing that you’re a biblioklept and won’t give them back.
5)
BIBLIOKLEPTOMANIA
A bibliophile with a compulsion for stealing books. People suffering from bibliokleptomania often prefer to steal books from libraries where they are less likely to get caught as compared to bookstores.
6)
BIBLIOBIBULI
The writer HL Mencken coined this word in 1957 as people who read too much. He said “I know some who are constantly drunk on books, as other men are drunk on whiskey or religion.”
7)
ABIBLIOPHOBIA
When you are reading things you’ve already read, then you’re perhaps on your way to developing abibliophobia: the fear of running out of things to read!
8)
BIBLIOSMIA
A bibliophile with bibliosmia loves the smell and aroma of a good book. From the Greek words for ‘book’ and ‘smell
9)
BIBLIOMANCY
The practice of using books for the practice of divination or to to predict the future. The method of employing sacred books (especially specific words and verses) for 'magical medicine', for removing negative entities, or for divination is widespread in many religions of the world. Bibliomancy compares with rhapsodomancy (from rhapsode "poem, song, ode") divination by reading a random passage from a poem.
10)
BIBLIOMANIAC
A bibliophile who takes it to the next level - book mania. Bibliomania can be a symptom of obsessive–compulsive disorder which involves the collecting or even hoarding of books to the point where social relations or health are damaged. Bibliomania is characterized by the collecting of books which have no use to the collector nor any great intrinsic value to a genuine book collector. The purchase of multiple copies of the same book and edition and the accumulation of books beyond possible capacity of use or enjoyment are symptoms of bibliomania.
