THE SUFFIX
The suffix -ferous is from the Latin ferre meaning “to bear; to produce, yield, contain, or convey” and the similar suffix -gerous, from Latin -ger bearing (from the root of gerere “ to bear, carry’) + -ous.
This list is composed of dangerous words but dangerous does not carry this suffix. Dangerous is from the Old French dangeros (a close relative of danger), which became dangerous after the Norman Conquest in the sense of arrogant or overbearing.
