It is work you do outside of therapy to help care for yourself. Mindfulness is self care. Exercise is self care. Massage, aromatherapy, spirituality, hobbies, sleeping... all self care.
THERAPY IS PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT.
AND GETTING IT FOR YOURSELF IS SELF CARE.

Remember - mental health matters and getting help from a professional is healthy self care and does not mean you are weak, that you can’t handle it, or that you are crazy. Ignore the stigma. Stigma is formed from maladaptive beliefs and those beliefs are reinforced by misinformation. And it’s spread by big mouths.
If you had a cardiac problem you would see an MD. A medical doctor called a cardiologist. It’s your HEART. It pumps your blood. Keeps you alive. It’s a vital organ.
FACT: The BRAIN is what powers your heart.
When your brain needs medical assistance you also see a doctor. A psychiatrist is an MD just like a cardiologist, a psychologist is a PhD, also called a doctor. Learn more here.
