Politics and government are normally hot topics but they are sizzling right now! We have some beautiful words that tell our political story - words we don’t hear a lot - you may have never heard some of them ever before! Let’s take a look at the linguistic footprint in American politics, the issues and the many quirks. These are not all necessarily government or political terms - you can find a glossary of those anywhere online. These are Beautiful Words that can be applied to topics like politics, government, patriotism and voting.
BUT WAIT... WHY VOTE?
Voting is not only our right, it is our power. When we vote we take back our power to choose, to speak up, and to stand up and be heard.

- Your vote is your voice and the voice of all who struggled to give you that voice
- People we elect make huge decisions that affect all our daily lives
- Government for the people, by the people must not perish from our country.
- Inside us all is the power to change our country. Every vote matters.
WORDS IN GOVERNMENT AND POLICY
AD HOCKERY - reliance on temporary solutions rather than long-term plans.
AMELIORATE - to improve conditions or to make something better.
ANIMADVERSION - an unfavorable or censorious comment.
ANTHROPOCENTRIC - viewing and interpreting everything in terms of the human experience and its morals and values.
APOSTASY - a total desertion from one’s party or cause.
ASSEVERATE - to declare your beliefs earnestly and solemnly and affirmation.
AUTARKY - economic self sufficiency.
BARNSTORM - to travel around the countryside making political speeches, giving lectures, or presenting theatrical performances.
BICAMERAL - having two branches, chambers, or houses in a legislative body.
BLAMESTORMING - the process of applying blame to an action or situation.
BLANDISHMENT - an action or speech intended to flatter to coax or entice the audience.
BOGSAT - [Bunch of Guys Sitting Around a Table] Policy or decision making by a small group of associates.
BOMFOG - excessive political rhetoric or obfuscation.
BRASS COLLAR- being of unwavering allegiance to one's party and/or ideology; always voting the straight party ticket.
BUNKUM - insincere speeches made solely to pacify the constituents.
CANARD - a baseless or derogatory story or report.
CAVIL - to raise irritating or trivial objections, find fault unnecessarily.
CORPOCRACY - society in which corporations have great economic and political power.
DEMOCRAZY a democracy in which inequitable situations have arisen, where cheating and voter manipulation is prevalent.
DEMOSCLEROSIS - the tendency of the government to resist change.
DEONTOLOGY - ethics, especially the branch dealing with duty, moral obligation, and right actions.
DITTOHEAD - an a blind acceptance and support of an issue without question.
DOCTRINAIRE - dogmatic about other’s acceptance of one’s ideas; fanatical.
DOUGHNUTING - a carefully created seating chart which places an ideal group of people around a leader for the ideal television shot.
ENERVATE - to deprive by force or strength, destroy or weaken.
ERACISM - the removal of the belief that one race is superior than another.
EQUIPOISE- an even balance or equilibrium.
EXCORIATE - to denounce or severely berate.
FANFARONADE - empty and shameless swaggering self-promotion.
FLACKARY - heavy publicity or promotion; press-agentry.
FRUGGING - an unethical fundraising tactic where a telemarketer falsely claims to be a researcher conducting a poll.
GAINSTAY - deny, dispute or contradict.
GERRYMANDER - the reorganization of voting districts by the party in power to ensure more votes for their candidates.
GIROUETTISM - frequently altering one’s opinions or principles to follow trends.
GLOBALONEY - an unrealistic foreign policy or global outlook.
GONZO - filled with bizarre or subjective ideas, commentary or response.
HIDEBOUND - narrow and inflexible in opinion.
HUBRIS - excessive pride or self-confidence; arrogance.
IMPRIMATUR- sanction or approval, provide support.
INEPTOCRACY - a system of government in which the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable to produce and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated resources of the producers.
INTERSECTIONALITY - the theory that the overlap of various social identities (race, gender, sexuality, or class) contributes to the type of systemic oppression and discrimination experienced by individuals.
INTRANSIGENT - unwilling to agree or compromise.
INVIOLABLE - prohibiting violation; secure from destruction, violence, infringement or desecration.
IRON TRIANGLE - the relationship between government agencies, lobbyists and legislative committees which allows them to dominate policy in any specific area.
IRENIC - promoting peace
ISONOMY -equality of political rights.
ISOPOLITY - equal rights of citizenship and mutual political rights.
JANNOCK - honest, fair and straightforward.
JAWBONE - using diplomacy and negotiation instead of force to get things done.
JOBLIJOCK - anything interfering with domestic comfort or peace.
KANGAROO TICKET - a dual ticket where the primary candidate is less appealing than the running mate. So called because a kangaroo's hindquarters are stronger than its front legs.
LAICISM - secular control of political and social institutions in a society.
LOGROLLING - the exchange of support or favors by legislators for mutual political gain by voting for each other's bills.
MAFFICK - to celebrate a victory with extravagant public demonstrations and publicity
MALFEASANCE- wrongful conduct by a public official.
MELIORISM - the belief that the world can made better by b human effort.
MISPRISON - neglect or wrong performance of official duty: misconduct or maladministration by a public official.
MISTER WHISKERS - United States government or one of its law-enforcement agencies.
MONEY BLURT - a strategy of using a politician’s controversial statements to attract a large number of campaign donors.
MUCKRATE - to search for and expose real or alleged corruption or scandals.
NAISSANCE - the origination and growth of a person, idea or movement.
NESCIENCE - lack of knowledge or ignorance.
NEVERENDUM - series of referendums initiated until the desired outcome is achieved.
NOSTRUM - a scheme, theory or device to remedy a political ill; panacea.
OBSTREPEROUS - resisting control or restraint in a difficult unruly manner.
OBVIATE - anticipate, prevent or eliminate difficulties or disadvantages with effective measures.
OMNISHAMBLES - a situation in which poor judgement results in disorder or chaos with potentially disastrous results.
SUFFRAGE- the right to vote.
TEMERATE - to break a binding promise.
THEWLESS - lacking in mental or moral vigor, weak or timid.
TIMOCRACY - a form of government is which love of honor is the dominant motive of its rulers.
TUB-THUMP - to be passionate about your beliefs and express your ideas voraciously.
TURKEY FARM - a government agency or department staffed primarily with political appointments and other patronage hires.
VERISIMILITUDE - the appearance of truth
WOKE - actively aware of systematic injustices and prejudices, especially to those related to civil and human rights.
