HEARTBROKEN WORDS

AGHYAAR - Persian for strangers
AGLIOPHOBIA - the fear of being hurt
ALPAS - to become free; to break loose
ANACAMPSEROTE - something that can bring back a lost love
ANAGAPESIS - no longer feeling affection for someone you once loved
ATELOPHOBIA - the fear of not being good enough; an extreme fear of failure
ATHAZAGORAPHOBIA - the fear of being forgotten, ignored or replaced
AUBADE - a love song sung at dawn
AVOIR LE MAL DE QUELQU’UN - French for intensely missing someone so much it literally makes you sick; “someonesickness” on the model of “seasickness.”
CAROM - to strike and rebound
CHARMOLYPI - “joy-making sorrow,” a mixed feeling of happiness and sorrow

INDURATIZE - to make own’s heart hardened or resistant to someone’s pleas or advances or to the idea of love
KALOPSIA - the illusion that things are more beautiful than they are
KATZENJAMMER - anguish or distress
LACUNA - a blank space, a missing part of your life
LA DOULEUR EXQUISE - the heart-wrenching pain of wanting the affection of someone unattainable
LITOST - a state of torment created by the sudden sight of one’s own misery
LUGUBRIOUS - mournful or dismal
MAGOA - a heartbreaking feeling that leaves is visible in gestures and facial expressions
MAEROR - Latin for grief or mourning
MAMIHLAPINATAPAI - a look shared by two people, both wishing the other would initiate something they both desire but which neither one begins
MAUDLIN - foolishly sentimental
NADIR - the lowest point of heartbreaking despair
OBLIVESCENCE - the process of forgetting
PISTANTHROPHOBIA - fear of trusting anybody based on painful remembrances of past relationships gone bad

TAINTED LOVE - love that you have for someone that is so deep and should last forever but it can’t for some unfair, complicated reason
TARANTISM - overcoming melancholy by the uncontrollable need to dance
THANTOPHOBIA- the fear of losing someone you love
TORPE - a man who is desperately in love with a woman but who can’t admit his feelings or even approach her
TOSKA - a dull ache of the soul, a sick lining, a spiritual anguish
TRISTFUL - deeply romantically melancholic

VEMOD - a tender sadness or pensive melancholy that you feel when an emotionally significant relationship is over
