LOGOPHILE
A lover of words and etymology. Also called a word lover or philologos.

LOGOLEPSY
A fascination or obsession with words.
From the Greek logos meaning word and lepsy to seize.

VERBIVORE
A humorous neologism defined as one who devours words. It was coined by Richard Lederer in the early 1980s and comes from the Latin terms verbum meaning word and Latin vorax, from vorō meaning devour. A verbivore could also be called a verbophile or a word nerd. Verbivores have an insatiable desire for the knowledge of words and take delight in discovering new words, ways to use words, and even in the creation of words.

A person who’s love for words is greater than their knowledge of words.

Fascinated by words and spellbound by language. A 1652 nonce word.

LOGODAEDALUS
Someone who is cunning with words. It was first used by poet and playwright Ben Jonson in 1611.

A mania for words, excessive use of or obsession with words

EPEOLATRY
The worship of words. It derives from Greek epos, a word, plus the -latry ending from Greek latreia meaning worship, also seen in words such as idolatry. The first known citation of epeolatry comes from the book Professor at the Breakfast Table, written by Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1860:

LOGOPOEIA - One of Ezra Pound's three kinds of poetry, consisting of the use of words for more than their denotation, taking advantage of the context associated with a word. Pound defined the term as "the dance of the intellect among words." Elsewhere he changes intellect to intelligence. The actual word "logopoeia" was not coined by Pound. The word already existed in Greek.
