TREATMENT OPTIONS
There is nothing wrong with seeking professional therapy. Stigmatized notions like it’s weak or that you can’t handle it yourself or that you are crazy or overemotional are wrong. Strength is found in recognizing that you need help and then seeking help, doing the work and then using self care strategies to reinforce what you learn and further your progress. Mental health matters. Self care is not selfish. Take care of yourself so you can take care of others.
There are two components of treatment.

- Professional therapy options
- Incorporation of self care options.
PROFESSIONAL THERAPY

MORE ABOUT SELF CARE
Self care promotes the healthy implementation of behaviors that support therapy goals and boost your abilities to manage your fears. Self care is what you do to manage your symptoms. Develop your self care plan with your therapist. The collaborative effort means your plan has targeted goals.
Self care means working on key areas that help boost your success in therapy. This includes management of functions like motivation, emotions, and cognitive processing.
Self care means working on key areas that help boost your success in therapy. This includes management of functions like motivation, emotions, and cognitive processing.
- Motivation is the driving force behind performing self-care. You need to make a plan, set goals, and make the right decisions regarding your needs. If you are motivated to be healthy you are more likely to make sure you go to your therapy appointments, attend groups, do homework and work your self care plan.
- Emotions are indicative of whether you will perform these behaviors. Someone with depression may miss appointments or not attend a group, take their prescribed medication or do the homework the therapist assigns. Avoidance and withdrawal are symptoms that affect your motivation. Finally, a disorder may affect your ability to perform your tasks on your self care plan. They may not enforce boundaries, avoid triggers or they may engage in overthinking which exasperates the phobia’s intensity.
- Someone with impaired cognitive or functional abilities such as memory may process thoughts appropriate so logic and rationalization may be affected. They may not be able to process reality in a panic attack.
- Social support systems can influence how an individual performs self-care maintenance. Social support systems include family, friends, and other community or religious support groups. These support systems provide opportunities for self-care decisions. Shared care can reduce stress on individuals with chronic illness.
