GOVERNMENT AND POLITICAL
BELIEF SYSTEMS
Anarchism - belief that advocates the absence or elimination of rulership or government. Other than being opposed to the state, there is no single defining position that all anarchists hold.
Authoritarianism - a state that enforces strong, and sometimes oppressive, measures against those in its influence, generally without consent and not allowing feedback on its policies. Citizens are subject to state authority.
Capitalism - an economic belief system based on private ownership of assets and of which all or most of the means of production are privately owned and operated in a free market.
Casualism - belief that chance governs all things
Communalism - small-scale utopianism or voluntary collectivism that believe local communities should have virtual autonomy within the context of a larger state or society.
Communism - belief of classless society in which individuals cannot own property
Conservatism - belief in maintaining political and social traditions
Despotism - a form of government in which the ruler is unconstrained.
Egalitarianism - political belief that holds that all people should be treated as equals.
Fascism - belief that seeks to place the nation, defined in exclusive biological, cultural, and historical terms, above all other loyalties, and to create a mobilized national community.
Individualism - belief that the rights or well-being of individuals are to be protected rather than the rights or well-being of groups such as nations or states, ideologies (such as communism or democracy), or religious communities (such as christendom).
Isolationism - a policy of nonparticipation in international relations
Liberalism - a belief that favors liberty as a political value and focuses on individual liberty, democratic republicanism (liberal democracy), and equality under the law.
Nationalism - the belief that your country's interests are superior
Nihilism - a belief that advocates destruction of the social system
Political Absolutism - belief that argues that one person should hold all power.
Progressivism - political movement that attempts to push society away from established practices.
Republicanism - belief that a republic is the best form of government
Socialism - belief that a society should exist in which popular collectives control the means of power, and therefore the means of production. It is focused on establishing an organized working class with the purpose of building a classless society.
Statism - the belief that the political authority of the state is to some degree legitimate, especially as it is used to enforce economic and social policy. Opposing views include antistatism and anarchism.
Syndicalism - belief of direct worker control of capital
Totalitarianism - the principle of unrestricted power in government. The state regulates every aspect of public and private behavior. Regimes do not tolerate activities by individuals or groups that do not progress the state's goals.
