STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES
Words of Nonsense and Stupidity


DEFINITION OF STUPID:
1: Slow of mind; given to unintelligent decisions or acts. - OBTUSE Acting in an unintelligent or careless manner. Lacking intelligence or reason - BRUTISH. “Math makes me feel stupid.”

2: Dulled in feeling or sensation - TORPID
still stupid from the sedative. “I feel woozy from this medicine. It makes me feel stupid.”

3: Marked by or resulting from unreasoned thinking or acting - SENSELESS. A stupid decision. “I made a stupid choice. I should have had dessert.”

4: Lacking interest or point. A stupid event - VEXATIOUS, EXASPERATING. “The stupid car won't start”

DEFINITION OF STUPIDITY:
1: The quality or state of being stupid
2: A stupid idea or act

We all do stupid things, make stupid mistakes, make stupid choices. This tongue in cheek word list is in honor of those situations - and I give you synonyms to use instead.

A’LARRACHE - speech give haphazardly with no preparation

AMPHIGORY - a meaningless or nonsensical piece of writing

ASAPIOPHOBE - someone who fears the lack of intelligence in others

BAKANA KOTO IWANAIDE - Japanese for “don’t say something stupid.”

BAKANA SHITSUMON GA ARUNDA - Japanese for “I have a stupid question.”

BAFFLEGAB - confusing or unintelligible jargon

BÊTE COMME SES PIEDS - French for very stupid

BLATHERSKITE - a person who talks at great length without making sense

BUNKUM – nonsense

CACK-HANDED - useless at something

CACOEPY - incorrect pronunciation

CATACHRESIS- the incorrect use of a word or phrase

CLAPTRAP - conversations that are nonsensical or absurd

COCKALORUM - a small, weak-minded man with a vastly elevated sense of self

CRASS - showing no knowledge

CRYPTOMNESIA - when you forget you have forgotten something and you perceive it as a new, original thought

DEJABREW - slowly remembering the stupid things you did drunk the night before

DUNDERHEAD - blockhead

DUNNING KRUGER EFFECT - when someone is so incompetent they believe they are exceptionally skilled

DYSLALIA - inability to articulate comprehensible speech

EPIPHANOT - an idea or statement that may seem like amazing insight to the conceiver but are in fact stupid, pointless or incorrect.

FATUOUS- complacently or inanely foolish

FLABBERGASTED - struck dumb

FERHOODLE - to confuse and mix up

FLOCCINAUCINIHILIPILIFICATION - the act of deciding that something is useless

FOOTLE - talking nonsense and appearing like a fool

GÒRACH - Scottish for lacking in intelligence

GORMLESS- lacking intelligence and vitality

IGNORANUS- someone who is both stupid and an asshole

IMBECILE - an ignorant person

INANE - extremely silly or stupid

INSIPIENCE - lack of wisdom, foolishness

JAYUS - a joke so stupid you have to laugh

KAKISTOCRACY - government by stupid ineffective politicians

L’AMOUR C’EST ETRE STUPIDE ENSEMBLE - French for “love is being stupid together.”

LES BLAGUES A LA CON - French for stupid jokes

LOGASTELLUS- someone who’s love of words is far greater than their knowledge of them

MOROSIS - the stupidest of stupidities

MYÖTÄHÄPEÄ - personal embarrassment one feels on account of and for another who is making a fool of him or herself), vicarious embarrassment

NEDOVTIPA - someone who can’t take a hint

NESCIENCE - lack of knowledge or awareness

NINNYHAMMER - a simpleton

NONVERSATION - a completely useless conversation

OBFUSCATE - explaining something and making it unclear, obscure or confusing

OBLIVION - total forgetfulness

OBTUSE - lacking sharpness or quickness of sensibility or intellect

PIFFLE - nonsense or trivial talk

PRATE - to talk endlessly without a point

SCHLEPPER - an inept or stupid person

SCIOLIST - someone pretending to be knowledgeable and informed

STULTIFY - to render dull and ineffective

THEWLESS- lacking in mental vigor

TOHUBOHU - utter confusion

TRITE - lacking originality or thought

TROGLODYTE - a person of primitive behavior

ULTRACREPIDARIAN - someone who gives opinions way beyond his knowledge

VACUOUS- marked by lack of ideas or intelligence

VERSCHLIMMBESSERUNG - German word for someone making an attempt to improve something but only makes things worse

WAZZOCK - a complete idiot

YONDERLY - absentminded
